New IP Network Solutions from Nokia

Saturday, December 02, 2006 by Salman Siddiqui

The Nokia Communication Suite provides consumers and business users with software that turns their PCs into softphones for accessing a wide range of "Rich Call" services over broadband connections - but with the added simplicity of using only one online identity and one billing account. The solution allows operators to offer seamless services across their fixed broadband and 3G mobile broadband networks, bridging these two domains.

Thanks to IP, Rich Calls can include Voice over IP (VoIP) calls, Video Sharing, video calls, instant messaging, presence, file sharing, and other multimedia services. With the Nokia Communication Suite, users can make and receive VoIP calls and other Rich Calls from their PCs using their existing mobile number. Calls to their mobile number can be answered with either their mobile or PC softphone.

The solution, which uses the Nokia Unified Core Network to process, connect and charge for the calls, will be demonstrated at Nokia World November 29 - 30 and is available for sale to operators next month.

"Nokia is embracing the vision of telecommunications that IP is making possible," says Roberto Loiola, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Networks, Nokia. "Voice over IP is already a fact of life for many consumers around the world, giving them more opportunities to keep in touch in novel and economical ways. The use of broadband Internet access for voice communication is here to stay, and Nokia recognizes that traditional operators - both mobile and fixed - can swim in these waters as well."

India's Bharti to offer Google search on mobiles

Friday, December 01, 2006 by Salman Siddiqui

As expected, Google is ready to capture everyone. Even the non Internet users, huh! After this announcement other rivals should be running there brains.

Bharti Airtel Ltd. (BRTI.BO: Quote, Profile, Research), India's top mobile services firm, said on Thursday it will offer Google Inc.'s (GOOG.O: Quote, Profile, Research) search facility for mobile phones.

Indian carriers are increasingly boosting their value-added services in a bid to offset a decline in voice tariffs due to intense competition in the world's fastest growing wireless services market.

Indian carriers added 6.7 million new users in October. At 136.22 million users, the mobile base is six times the number of people in India who have a desktop computer.

Panasonic to Show Your Mood to Everyone

Tuesday, November 28, 2006 by Salman Siddiqui

Now people will be able to guess if you are talking to your girl friend or to your boss on the phone. Panasonic is planning to show your mood on the front screen of the P720iD clamshell cell phone while you do the talking. They will be doing this with some kind of color codes. Unfortunately you will not be able to see what your mobile is showing to others. Time for some to enjoy and some to "avoid Panasonic".

Considering the fact that the actual displaying of your mood is done after the phone has analyzed the tone and patterns of your voice after beginning a conversation, one is forced to draw the conclusion that he won't be able to see what the “Feel Talk” technology doing all that complex stuff has decided to tell everybody about you because the mentioned LED will be facing outward from your ear. Maybe we don't have the necessary skills to do that or they’ve already thought of this aspect and will leave the user discover what everyone else already saw after the phone call has ended.
